How much does a weddingwebsite cost?
Anywhere from free to several thousand pounds. Here is an honest breakdown of what each option really costs, including the free ones.
The free ones
Most couples start with a free wedding website builder, and they are free because the builder makes its money elsewhere. Your address is a page on the builder’s own site, so every invitation you send advertises them. The registry takes a commission on gifts. And the guest list, names, emails and sometimes home addresses, becomes marketing data.
Free also tends to mean adverts on the page, an upsell to remove them, and a site that disappears a few months after the day.
The subscription ones
The paid tiers of the big builders usually cost £10 to £30 a month. That sounds small, but engagements are long: most couples plan for a year or more, and the site needs to stay up after the day for the album and the thank-yous. Two years at £30 a month is £720, and the meter is still running after the wedding.
At the cheaper end of that range you would pay less than you pay here, and it is only fair to say so. What the money buys is different: a subscription rents you a page on the builder’s own domain for as long as you keep paying, and the day you stop is the day it goes. Here the address is yours, the payment ends, and nothing is rented.
Having one designed
A web designer building you a one-off site is the bespoke option, and it is priced like one: usually well into four figures before anyone has mentioned RSVPs. And changing a paragraph in the week of the wedding means asking someone and waiting.
What £595 buys here
vowto is one payment of £595, tax included, and it covers the whole thing: your own .wedding address, registered for you and yours to take, the site itself, and the planning office behind it: online RSVPs, the guest list, the seating plan, dietary needs counted for the caterer, a gift and honeymoon fund with no commission taken, a photo album your guests fill on the day, and printable invitations and a door card to match the site. The site stays up for at least a year after the wedding, and nothing about it is ever rented.
There is no tier above it and none below it, so the thing you actually want is never on the next plan up. Everything is listed in what you get, and the whole working product is at demo.vowto.co, planning dashboard included, with no password.
Questions couples ask about the price
- Is £595 really the whole price?
- Yes. It includes tax, the domain, the planning tools and the guest album, and there is nothing further to pay. The price is in pounds and converted to your own currency at checkout.
- What about renewing the domain?
- Your address is registered to at least six months past the wedding, usually longer, and we write to you before it expires so you can keep it. It is never set to auto-renew, so there is no surprise bill.
- What if we change our minds?
- You have fourteen days. Write to us and you are refunded in full, less only the cost of your domain if one was registered, and the domain stays yours. The refunds page sets it out plainly.
